This is due to an extra "X" - 47 XXY.
It is the commonest cause of male hypogonadism.
As such it always comes up somehow in the exam.
It could be a MCQ asking which is the commonest chromosome abnormality associated with:
male hypogonadism,
azoospermia,
infertility.
The IQ is less than that of siblings, but not grossly impaired.
Immaturity, shyness, delayed acquisition of reading skills etc. are features.
Gynaecomastia occurs.
The testes are small and infertility the norm because of azoospermia.
Mostly detected in the infertility clinic.
Successful treatment can be
achieved through sperm retrieval,
The gonads do not turn
malignant.
